Navratri - Navratri, literally interpreted as 'nine nights' is the most celebrated Hindu festival devoted to Goddess Durga symbolizing purity and power or 'shakti'. Navratri festival combines ritualistic puja and fasting and is accompanied by resplendent celebrations for nine consecutive days and nights. Navratri in India follows the lunar calendar and is celebrated in March/April as Chaitra Navratri and in September/October as Sharad Navratri.

During Navratri, people from villages and cities gather to perform 'puja' on small shrines representing different aspects of Goddess Durga, including Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati. Chanting of mantras and renditions of bhajans and folk songs usually accompany the puja rituals for nine consecutive days of Navratri.

Navratri Celebrations
Defining both the religious and cultural themes, Navratri celebrations are seeped in traditional music and dance. Gujarat is the focus of Navratri celebrations with all night-long dance and festivities. 'Garba' is a devotional dance form that derives from the folklore of Lord Krishna singing and dancing with the gopis using 'dandiya' or slim wooden sticks. 'Raas Garba' has also evolved to include steps like 'Dodhiyu', 'Trikoniya', 'Lehree' and several others. What's more, with time, Navratri festival has seen changes in celebrations with well-choreographed dance performances, high-end acoustics and people dressed in made-to-order, bright costumes. श्राद्ध कर्म: कब, क्यों और कैसे???

 🌹भारतीय शास्त्रों में ऐसी मान्यता है कि पितृगण पितृपक्ष में पृथ्वी पर आते हैं और 15 दिनों तक पृथ्वी पर रहने के बाद अपने लोक लौट जाते हैं। शास्त्रों में बताया गया है कि पितृपक्ष के दौरान पितृ अपने परिजनों के आस-पास रहते हैं इसलिए इन दिनों कोई भी ऐसा काम नहीं करें जिससे पितृगण नाराज हों। पितरों को खुश रखने के लिए पितृ पक्ष में कुछ बातों पर विशेष ध्यान देना चाहिए। पितृ पक्ष के दौरान , जामाता, भांजा, मामा, गुरु, नाती को भोजन कराना चाहिए। इससे पितृगण अत्यंत प्रसन्न होते हैं भोजन करवाते समय भोजन का पात्र दोनों हाथों से पकड़कर लाना चाहिए अन्यथा भोजन का अंश राक्षस ग्रहण कर लेते हैं जिससे ब्राह्मणों द्वारा अन्न ग्रहण करने के बावजूद पितृगण भोजन का अंश ग्रहण नहीं करते हैं। 🌹🌹🌹

पितृ पक्ष में द्वार पर आने वाले किसी भी जीव-जंतु को मारना नहीं चाहिए बल्कि उनके योग्य भोजन का प्रबंध करना चाहिए। हर दिन भोजन बनने के बाद एक हिस्सा निकालकर गाय, कुत्ता, कौआ अथवा बिल्ली को देना चाहिए। मान्यता है कि इन्हें दिया गया भोजन सीधे पितरों को प्राप्त हो जाता है। शाम के समय घर के द्वार पर एक दीपक जलाकर पितृगणों का ध्यान करना चाहिए।

हिंदू धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार जिस तिथि को जिसके पूर्वज गमन करते हैं, उसी तिथि को उनका श्राद्ध करना चाहिए। इस पक्ष में जो लोग अपने पितरों को जल देते हैं तथा उनकी मृत्युतिथि पर श्राद्ध करते हैं, उनके समस्त मनोरथ पूर्ण होते हैं। जिन लोगों को अपने परिजनों की मृत्यु की तिथि ज्ञात नहीं होती, उनके लिए पितृ पक्ष में कुछ विशेष तिथियां भी निर्धारित की गई हैं, जिस दिन वे पितरों के निमित्त श्राद्ध कर सकते हैं। 

🌹आश्विन कृष्ण प्रतिपदा: इस तिथि को नाना-नानी के श्राद्ध के लिए सही बताया गया है। इस तिथि को श्राद्ध करने से उनकी आत्मा को शांति मिलती है। यदि नाना-नानी के परिवार में कोई श्राद्ध करने वाला न हो और उनकी मृत्युतिथि याद न हो, तो आप इस दिन उनका श्राद्ध कर सकते हैं। पंचमी: जिनकी मृत्यु अविवाहित स्थिति में हुई हो, उनका श्राद्ध इस तिथि को किया जाना चाहिए।

 🌹नवमी: सौभाग्यवती यानि पति के रहते ही जिनकी मृत्यु हो गई हो, उन स्त्रियों का श्राद्ध नवमी को किया जाता है। यह तिथि माता के श्राद्ध के लिए भी उत्तम मानी गई है। इसलिए इसे मातृनवमी भी कहते हैं। मान्यता है कि इस तिथि पर श्राद्ध कर्म करने से कुल की सभी दिवंगत महिलाओं का श्राद्ध हो जाता है। 

🌹एकादशी और द्वादशी: एकादशी में वैष्णव संन्यासी का श्राद्ध करते हैं। अर्थात् इस तिथि को उन लोगों का श्राद्ध किए जाने का विधान है, जिन्होंने संन्यास लिया हो।

 🌹चतुर्दशी: इस तिथि में शस्त्र, आत्म-हत्या, विष और दुर्घटना यानि जिनकी अकाल मृत्यु हुई हो उनका श्राद्ध किया जाता है जबकि बच्चों का श्राद्ध कृष्ण पक्ष की त्रयोदशी तिथि को करने के लिए कहा गया है।

 🌹सर्वपितृमोक्ष अमावस्या: किसी कारण से पितृपक्ष की अन्य तिथियों पर पितरों का श्राद्ध करने से चूक गए हैं या पितरों की तिथि याद नहीं है, तो इस तिथि पर सभी पितरों का श्राद्ध किया जा सकता है। शास्त्र अनुसार, इस दिन श्राद्ध करने से कुल के सभी पितरों का श्राद्ध हो जाता है। यही नहीं जिनका मरने पर संस्कार नहीं हुआ हो, उनका भी अमावस्या तिथि को ही श्राद्ध करना चाहिए। बाकी तो जिनकी जो तिथि हो, श्राद्धपक्ष में उसी तिथि पर श्राद्ध करना चाहिए। यही उचित भी है। 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

पिंडदान करने के लिए सफेद या पीले वस्त्र ही धारण करें। जो इस प्रकार श्राद्धादि कर्म संपन्न करते हैं, वे समस्त मनोरथों को प्राप्त करते हैं और अनंत काल तक स्वर्ग का उपभोग करते हैं। विशेष: श्राद्ध कर्म करने वालों को निम्न मंत्र तीन बार अवश्य पढ़ना चाहिए। यह मंत्र ब्रह्मा जी द्वारा रचित आयु, आरोग्य, धन, लक्ष्मी प्रदान करने वाला अमृतमंत्र है- देवताभ्यः पितृभ्यश्च महायोगिश्च एव च। नमः स्वधायै स्वाहायै नित्यमेव भवन्त्युत ।।(वायु पुराण) ।।

श्राद्ध सदैव दोपहर के समय ही करें। प्रातः एवं सायंकाल के समय श्राद्ध निषेध कहा गया है। हमारे धर्म-ग्रंथों में पितरों को देवताओं के समान संज्ञा दी गई है। ‘सिद्धांत शिरोमणि’ ग्रंथ के अनुसार चंद्रमा की ऊध्र्व कक्षा में पितृलोक है जहां पितृ रहते हैं। पितृ लोक को मनुष्य लोक से आंखों द्वारा नहीं देखा जा सकता। जीवात्मा जब इस स्थूल देह से पृथक होती है उस स्थिति को मृत्यु कहते हैं। यह भौतिक शरीर 27 तत्वों के संघात से बना है। स्थूल पंच महाभूतों एवं स्थूल कर्मेन्द्रियों को छोड़ने पर अर्थात मृत्यु को प्राप्त हो जाने पर भी 17 तत्वों से बना हुआ सूक्ष्म शरीर विद्यमान रहता है।

हिंन्दु मान्यताओं के अनुसार एक वर्ष तक प्रायः सूक्ष्म जीव को नया शरीर नहीं मिलता। मोहवश वह सूक्ष्म जीव स्वजनों व घर के आसपास घूमता रहता है। श्राद्ध कार्य के अनुष्ठान से सूक्ष्म जीव को तृप्ति मिलती है इसीलिए श्राद्ध कर्म किया जाता है।

ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं है कि इस अनुष्ठान में जो भोजन खिलाया जाता है वही पदार्थ ज्यों का त्यों उसी आकार, वजन और परिमाण में मृतक पितरों को मिलता है। वास्तव में श्रद्धापूर्वक श्राद्ध में दिए गए भोजन का सूक्ष्म अंश परिणत होकर उसी अनुपात व मात्रा में प्राणी को मिलता है जिस योनि में वह प्राणी है।

पितृ लोक में गया हुआ प्राणी श्राद्ध में दिए हुए अन्न का स्वधा रूप में परिणत हुए को खाता है। यदि शुभ कर्म के कारण मर कर पिता देवता बन गया तो श्राद्ध में दिया हुआ अन्न उसे अमृत में परिणत होकर देवयोनि में प्राप्त होगा। गंधर्व बन गया हो तो वह अन्न अनेक भोगों के रूप में प्राप्त होता है। पशु बन जाने पर घास के रूप में परिवर्तित होकर प्राप्त होता है

एक  कथा के अनुसार महिषासुर को उसकी उपासना से ख़ुश होकर देवताओं ने उसे अजेय होने का वर प्रदान कर दिया था। उस वरदान को पाकर महिषासुर ने उसका दुरुपयोग करना शुरू कर दिया और नरक को स्वर्ग के द्वार तक विस्तारित कर दिया। महिषासुर ने सूर्य, चन्द्र, इन्द्र, अग्नि, वायु, यम, वरुण और अन्य देवतओं के भी अधिकार छीन लिए और स्वर्गलोक का मालिक बन बैठा।

देवताओं को महिषासुर के भय से पृथ्वी पर विचरण करना पड़ रहा था। तब महिषासुर के दुस्साहस से क्रोधित होकर देवताओं ने माँ दुर्गा की रचना की। महिषासुर का वध करने के लिए देवताओं ने अपने सभी अस्त्र-शस्त्र माँ दुर्गा को समर्पित कर दिए थे जिससे वह बलवान हो गईं। नौ दिनों तक उनका महिषासुर से संग्राम चला था और अन्त में महिषासुर का वध करके माँ दुर्गा महिषासुरमर्दिनी कहलाईं।

वर्ष में दो बार नवरात्रि क्यों?

नवरात्रि साल में दो बार मनाया जाने वाला इकलौता उत्सव है- एक नवरात्रि गर्मी की शुरुआत पर चैत्र में और दूसरा शीत की शुरुआत पर आश्विन माह में। गर्मी और जाड़े के मौसम में सौर-ऊर्जा हमें सबसे अधिक प्रभावित करती है। क्योंकि फसल पकने, वर्षा जल के लिए बादल संघनित होने, ठंड से राहत देने आदि जैसे जीवनोपयोगी कार्य इस दौरान संपन्न होते हैं। इसलिए पवित्र शक्तियों की आराधना करने के लिए यह समय सबसे अच्छा माना जाता है। प्रकृति में बदलाव के कारण हमारे तन-मन और मस्तिष्क में भी बदलाव आते हैं। इसलिए शारीरिक और मानसिक संतुलन बनाए रखने के लिए हम उपवास रखकर शक्ति की पूजा करते हैं। एक बार इसे सत्य और धर्म की जीत के रूप में मनाया जाता है, वहीं दूसरी बार इसे भगवान श्रीराम के जन्मोत्सव के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

Gana refers to the ghosts, ghouls, goblins, and demons that are attendants of Lord Shiva, of which Ganesh is the leader of.
