Ganesha means lord of the ganas. Gana means a group or community and is a means lord. Ganesha is the leader of the community of Hindu gods. Ganesha is also the first deity who awakens in our spiritual meditation and guide us on the path. 

Gana refers to the ghosts, ghouls, goblins, and demons that are attendants of Lord Shiva, of which Ganesh is the leader of.
